Agartala: The ruling BJP has announced Dipak Majumder, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency.

The vacancy in the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency arose following the unfortunate demise of BJP MLA Surajit Datta, prompting the by-election scheduled for April 19.

In response to his nomination, Mayor Majumder expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honoured to serve the constituents of the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency, following in the footsteps of the late MLA Surajit Datta, who dedicated 40 years to their service. Building on the foundation laid by the BJP and the former MLA, I am committed to addressing the fundamental needs of the people. I intend to fulfill the aspirations of the late MLA by engaging with residents directly, understanding their challenges, and delivering tangible solutions. My familiarity with this constituency over the years will undoubtedly facilitate my efforts to serve the community.”

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha extended his congratulations to Dipak Majumder, urging voters to support the BJP candidate in the upcoming by-election. He emphasized, “I urge the esteemed voters of the 7-Ramnagar constituency to cast their ballots for the ‘Lotus’ symbol on April 19th, thereby strengthening the double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji.”

In contrast, the CPIM has nominated former MLA Ratan Das to contest for this seat in the upcoming election.
