A Burmese rock python was rescued from Kuntamari village under Simla police station in Baksa district of Assam on Monday evening.

The python, measuring about nine ft long and weighed around 10kg, was rescued by one Kripananda Borgoyary.

Kripra Borgoyary said they were on the way to Kundamari village in Koklabari under Simla police in Baksa.

They saw villagers searching for python to kill in the paddy field.

“We have asked them not to kill the python and later rescued the reptile from the villagers and handed it over to the Forest Department officials,” Borgoyary said.

Borgoyary also said that they informed the Forest department in Baksa about the rescue of the python who later brought the reptile to Kokrajhar.

The python was later handed over to Wildlife department in Kokrajhar to be released at Chakrachila Wildlife Sanctuary.
