A massive protest rally was taken out at Manikpur in Bongaigaon district of Assam in protest against increasing incidents of rape and crime against women and minors on Thursday.
The rally was taken out under the aegis of All India Democratic Women’s Forum.
The protestors carried placards and banners denouncing the heinous rape incidents of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and also back home in Assam.
The protestors also staged a sit-in demonstration on Tuesday at the market place of Manikpur from 11 am till 1:30 pm.
The protestors also condemned the ‘inaction’ of both the Centre and the State Government in curbing incidents of rape and crime against women and children.
The protestors demanded stringent punishment and faast track judgement in incidents of rape and crime against women and children.
The protesting women while coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much publicized slogan of ‘Beti bachao, beti padhao’, said it has remained a mere slogan which is yet to be translated into reality.
The protest rally was also joined by representatives of various parties and organizations of Bongaigaon district.
