A devastating fire that broke out at the Mongku Village under Sadar Circle of East Siang district on the wee hours on Friday gutted ten houses and left eight families homeless.
All household items and valuable ornaments belonging to the eight families were reportedly reduced to ashes in the inferno while the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The administration has for the time being provided shelter to the homeless at the Mongku Government Primary School.
Local MLA Kaling Moyong along with deputy commissioner Tamiyo Tatak and superintendent of police Prashant Gautam immediately rushed to the spot where they met and interacted with the victims and assured them support. An amount of Rs 3,800 each as immediate relief was also distributed to the affected families by the visiting team.
MLA Moyong further asked the district disaster management authority to submit the assessment report to the government at the earliest so that more assistance could be provided to the victims to rebuild their lives.
A loss assessment is being taken up by a five-member committee constituted by the district administration led by EAC Henkar Lollen.
Meanwhile, DC Tatak has urged upon the people to remain alert at all times and adopt all possible safety and preventive measures to avert such unfortunate incidents in the future.
