The Nagaland state committee of the BJP has lodged an FIR against a news portal for allegedly carrying an objectionable report about BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav.
Nagaland BJP general secretary Jaangsillung Gonmei has filed the complaint at East Police Station, Dimapur against The News Joint, a portal based in Nagaland, for publishing a report—Has Ram Madhav Landed BJP in Trouble in Nagaland—on February 11 which claimed that Madhab was caught in a compromising situation with two women in a hotel in Dimapur.
The report said NSCN rebels video-graphed the incident and threatened Ram Madhav to make the video public if Nagaland election is not cancelled.
“The said news report is totally false and malicious seeking to character assassinated (and damage) the image our national general secretary Ram Madhav and sabotage the successful electioneering efforts of the party in the 27th February, 2018 assembly election in the state,” the FIR said.
Gonmei in the FIR further said that Ram Madhav was in Dimapur on February 10 on a brief three-hour stopover on an election duty from Tripura and held meetings with party leaders and left in the afternoon.
He claimed that no such purported incident as cited by the portal in the report happened.
Reacting to the incident, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, ‘Shocked at utter & shameless falsehood being spread about rammadhab ji. We challenge those behind this blatant lie to prove the claims.’
“Meanwhile we are moving to the cyber crime department to investigate this. We shall also sue all those involved in spreading rumours!” he said in the tweet.
