The normal life was heavily disrupted in Udalguro district during the Bharat Bandh called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Monday over rising fuel prices, inflation and a weakening rupee.

The bandh evoked full response in important townships of the district  including Tangla, Kalaigaon, Udalguri, Harisinga, Rowta and Mazbat.

Though private vehicles were plying, commercial vehicles and bus services remained off the roads.

The streets wore a deserted look since 9 am.

The shops and markets also remained closed since morning. The schools and colleges closed midway.

Pro-bandh activists also blocked a passenger train at Majbat Railway Station in Udalguri district for almost an hour.

The bandh supporters rented the air by anti-BJP slogans.

Talking to Northeast Now, Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur said, “The Narendra Modi-led Government is pro-capitalist and pro-corporate which works only for welfare of big industrialist houses.”

He further stated that that the present Government has miserably failed in controlling the price hike of all the essential commodities.

“The question that trickles the common citizens is where is the much hyped acche din ? The people of the country will give saffron party a befitting reply in 2019 parliamentary polls,” he added.
