Brisk preparation is going on to celebrate the 29th National Road Safety Week in Barpeta district from April 23 to April 30, 2018.

The theme of the celebration is ‘Sadak suraksha-Jeevan Raksha’.

The programe will be kicked off at the Bajali Higher Secondary School playground at Pathsala on April 23, 2018, informed the Path Suraksha Samiti which has been formed with Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Thaneswar Malakar as the chairman, Violet Barua, Superintendent of Police, Barpeta and Gautam Baruah, Member Secretary.

The entire programme will be flagged off at 11 am by the Deputy Commissioner. The celebration will be held under the directive of the Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India and the Transport Department of the Assam government.

On the beginning day, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be conducted by VRDS, an NGO, followed by lighting of lamp by Pabindra Deka, MLA, Patacharkuchi LAC.

Deputy Commissioner Thaneswar Malakar will formally declare open the entire week-long celebration. Plantation of saplings will be initiated by Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy P, SDO (Civil), Bajali Sub-division and Ananda Khataniar, Brand Ambassador of Environment and Forest Department, government of Assam.

The Path Suraksha Committee will felicitate some persons, who have extended support in the programme like Krishna Roy, producer of Abahan Theatre, singer Zubeen Garg and popular actor Prastuti Parashar.

Himangshu Roy, Chairman of the Pathsala Town Committee and Dr Ranjit Deka, Rector, Anundoram Borooah Academy, Pathsala, will release the leaflets and messages regarding road safety.

Street play will be performed by Bagas, Mukalmua and Speed, a Hajo-based NGO.

Violet Barua, Superintendent of Police, Barpeta and Prastuti Parashar will kick-off the awareness procession that will be taken out in the town in order to generate mass awareness regarding road safety. A poster exhibition on road safety will also be organized under the aegis of Hub studio of Barpeta.

A short play – Pathar Lagari – will be performed at the Bihu stage of the Pathsala Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee under the aegis of District Transport Office, Barpeta.

On April 24, awareness meetings will be organized in various places of the district including Patacharkuchi and Baghmara in order to generate mass awareness among the people. Documents of the vehicles will also be checked by the authorities concerned during the period.

On April 25, a health check-up camp will be held at Pathsala under the aegis of Pathsala Bus Owners’ Association and Motor Workers’ Association.

The DIPRO office at Barpeta will arrange mike announcement regarding the road safety.

On April 26, spot easy writing competition will be held among the students at the both government and private institutions in Bhabanipur, Sarupeta, Pathsala areas besides checking of vehicle documents.

On April 27, a day-long mike announcement and distribution of leaflets regarding road safety in areas like Sarthebari, Bajali and Nagaon will be done.

A special awareness meeting at Baghmara HS School will also be held where Gautam Das, DTO, Barpeta wil take part as resource person.

Street play will be performed by the students of the locality on that day also.

On April 28, besides awareness programme, a special meeting will also be held at Baghmara. On April 29, awareness drive will be conducted by mike announcement in Sarupeta Chouliabari, Bhawanipur, Salbari area, etc.

The entire celebration will conclude at the DTO office, Barpeta on April 30.
