Normal life has been severely affected in Churachandpur district of Manipur particularly in the district headquarters and town areas on Saturday due to 18 hours total bandh called by Vaiphei Students’ Association.

The Vaiphei Students’ Association 18 hours total shutdown within the Churachandpur district demanding the safe release of two abducted youths. The shutdown was in force from midnight of March 30.

However there is no report of any untoward incident during the strike even though the strike supporters came out in groups and burnt tyres on the road.

According to reports available here, two road construction workers namely Lalmalsawmlian (17)of Lingsiphai village and Khuplal (20) of  Tuili Leibul village were abducted from Nabil Khuman village under Henglep area of the district in the intervening of March 25 and 26. Since then the whereabouts of these youths are not known yet.

A case in this regard was registered in the police station and necessary steps are being taken up to rescue the abducted road construction workers, a senior police officer of the district told Northeast Now over phone. One individual suspected to be involved in the abduction case has also been arrested, the officer added.

Earlier Khailalpiak Vaiphei, secretary information and publicity of Vaiphei Students’ Association popularly known as Zillai in a press statement had warned to go ahead with more intense agitation in future if the issue is not resolved.
