Munin Barua, a prominent film director hailing from the state of Assam, has been shortlisted for the Bhabendra Nath Saikia Award for the year 2018.
An illustrious filmmaker, Barua started his career in the Assamese film industry as a script writer and assistant director in the mid-seventies.
Born in 1946 at Khumtai in Golaghat, Barua has been credited as a scriptwriter for over 20 films and has also directed close to 14 films throughout his career.
Some of his most popular films include: Ghar-Sansar, Bowari, Pita-Putra, Dinabandhu, Sewali, Barood, Mon-Mandir, Daag, Rong, Maya, Bidhata, Priyar Priyo to name a few.
Munin Barua’s film Dinabandhu has been awarded the National Film Award for best feature film in Assamese.
The Bhabendra Nath Saikia Award is instituted by the Government of Assam in 2009, in recognition of excellence in the field of arts and culture.
The award constitutes Rs 1 Lakh in cash, a shawl and a citation by the Government of Assam recognizing the contribution of the receiving artist.
