Young passionate writer from Assam, Jitendra Deka’s debut work of fiction The Rainbow Chaser narrates the lives of people in different lights. Launched on 4th November 2017 in North East Book Fair, Guwahati; the anthology comprises sixteen short stories which are based on sentiments of greater Assamese community across the globe.
Since his childhood, this 24-year-old award winning fiction and non-fiction writer from Assam has intended to propagate his mind and ideology to humanity through his writings in both English and Assamese dailies in Assam.
For his book, Jitendra Deka has achieved the recognition of 7th best debut writer by The Indian Awaz, a literary body to recognize new age writers of the country.
The Rainbow Chaser is a collection of sixteen short stories, based on various timelines- starting from mid ‘90s to till date, where the author wants to portray the common Assamese lives. The Rainbow Chaser-the story depicts the life of a girl, where she struggled hard to get back to her Rainbow Chasing Days, i.e.; her glorious childhood, which was devastated by terrors.
On the other hand, the story Selection Day portrays the life of a teenager in lower Assam, who was kidnapped by ULFA soon after he was selected for Ranji Trophy team to represent Assam. In the story titled Subansiri, the author, also being an engineer portrays the ongoing disputes between government and many organizations.
Reservation system while sucks the nation, the author keeps an eye on the burning problem and finds a ray of hope in his story Nine to Five. With Manikut, the author once again brings forth the issue of Barpeta Kirtan Ghar, where women are not allowed to enter.
Coming to the stories, the author narrates the stories mostly as an observer. Right from the first story, the divine love of memories and zeal to rediscover one’s self can be traced.
He creates the fictitious characters in the web of sanity and insanity that are forlorn and forsaken by the family and society and catches the readers’ heart through his sentiments of the pen.
Throughout the exquisite journey of reading the book, a bookworm can feel the utmost emotions with which the writer has penned this phenomenal yet heart touching book.
