Several organizations led by Biswanath’s Jinjia unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a demonstration on Tuesday as a part of the central committee AASU’s call for state-wide protest against the Central government’s move to grant Indian citizenship to illegal migrants by implementing the controversial citizenship bill.

Bihali unit of All Assam Tea Tribes’ Students’ Union (AATTSU), Bihali unit of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), All Assam Adivasi Students’ Union along with Jinjia Banik Sanstha, Ratua Mahila Samiti, Muslim Samaj and Bengali Samaj also joined the protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The leaders demanded immediate withdrawal of the Bill, implementation of the Assam Accord to identify and deport illegal migrants from Assam, signing of a bilateral agreement between India and Bangladesh and sealing of the Indo-Bangla border.

Jinjia regional unit of the AASU president Rupjyoti Upamanyu, secretary Karim Ali, Sonitpur district of AASU assistant secretary Ajmat Shaikh, Biswanath sub-division unit of AASU president Bikram Bikash Bora, Bihali unit of AATTSA president Babul Goala and Biswanath district unit of AAGSU president Dilip Gajurel joined the protest programme.

The leaders of the organizations also submitted a memorandum to the Biswanath district Deputy Commissioner.
