Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Friday, May 29, denied bail to Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the case related to singer Zubeen Garg’s death.
The court had earlier reserved its order after hearing arguments presented by Mahanta’s lawyers on May 22.
Justice Mitali Thakuria heard the matter after Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia recused himself from the case earlier this month.
The bail petition filed by the Northeast Festival organiser was initially listed before Justice Saikia on May 13.
After the Special Fast-Track Court denied his initial bail plea in the singer’s death case, Mahanta moved the Gauhati High Court seeking relief
He sought relief from the High Court after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) named him in a charge sheet submitted in December 2025.
Following the hearing, Justice Mitali Thakuria’s bench rejected the bail plea.
