Guwahati: The bail hearing of accused Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the case related to the death of singer Zubeen Garg was deferred to May 22 after proceedings held at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Friday.

The hearing was conducted before Chief Judicial Magistrate Mitali Thakur.

According to advocate Jiaul Kamar, who briefed the media after the proceedings, the court directed the investigating agency to submit the case diary before the next date of hearing.

He further said Mahantaโ€™s legal team is expected to file a special affidavit on May 18 in connection with the bail plea.

During Thursdayโ€™s hearing, both the prosecution and the defence presented their arguments. The prosecution also sought the submission of additional case-related documents.

The case is linked to the September 19, 2025 incident associated with death of iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The court will take up the bail plea again on May 22 after examining the case diary and other submissions.

In a related development last month, a fast-track court had rejected Mahantaโ€™s bail plea on April 30, marking a significant development in the ongoing proceedings.
