A woman bank official was shot dead on Tuesday evening at Agiathuri under Amingaon police station on the Guwahati outskirts by two-motorcycle borne undefined gunmen.
Sources said Junu Sarma, who worked at State Bank of India (SBI)’s Dadara branch as an assistant manager, was critically injured after two unidentified bike-borne miscreants fired at her on Hajo Road at Agiathuri near Saraighat bridge here. Police said she sustained two bullet shots-one each on neck and upper arms.
The bullet drilled a hole through the windscreen of the car and hit her, said a police official.
The injured bank official was rushed to Narayan Superspeciality Hospital at Amingaon here in a critical condition but she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
According to locals, Sarma was on the way back home in Guwahati in a four-wheeler ( no-AS-01AG-6869) from the bank when the incident took place. Sarma was a resident of Nijarapar area in Chandmari of the city.
The miscreants immediately after the incident managed to flee from the spot. Police have picked up Pranab Kalita, the driver of the vehicle in which Sarma was travelling in, for questioning.
Sarma’s husband Pradip Sarma is also a bank official. He is currently posted as Deputy Manager at SBI’s Rangia branch. Sarma is survived by two sons besides her husband Pradip.
