Karbi Anglong unrest
DGP Harmeet Singh told reporters that the administration is not relying solely on force to restore normalcy and remains open to dialogue.

Guwahati: Assam DGP Harmeet Singh on Wednesday stated that the law and order situation in West Karbi Anglong is fully under control following recent unrest and violence in the district.

He added that an Army column conducted a route march in the affected areas as part of confidence-building efforts.

Singh told reporters that the administration is not relying solely on force to restore normalcy and remains open to dialogue.

The state government has scheduled a tripartite meeting involving itself, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and representatives of those presenting demands.

According to the DGP, the violence involved vandalism and arson, during which administrative officials were attacked.

He confirmed that one person from the mob died during the clashes, while another, a differently-abled individual, died after being trapped during an arson incident.

Singh appealed to protestors to come forward for talks and assist in guiding the youth, stating that violence serves no one.

Security forces, including the Army, police, and central forces, remain deployed throughout the district to maintain peace.

He also stated that legal action will be taken against those involved in the unrest, with heightened security measures remaining in place to prevent any further disturbances in West Karbi Anglong.

He added that authorities have collected video evidence of the incidents, and some individuals have already been identified.
