Sourav Das, a youth from has secured 1022nd position in JEE (Advanced) 2020. He hails from Patacharkuchi in Bajali district.
Sourav is the son of Hitesh Das, a handloom weaver and Padumi Das, a homemaker. Even extreme financial hardship could not deter him from succeeding in his academics.
Sourav passed the HSLC examination with 91 percent marks from the Patacharkuchi Sankardev Sishu Niketan.
He passed the higher secondary examination with 79 percent from the Krishna Kanda Handique Junior College in Pathsala.
Sourav initially aspired to become a physician, but his aspiration underwent a change after getting selected for coaching under Oil India Super 30.
He put in more than twelve hours a day in his studies and secured 4096 rank among the SC candidates in the JEE mains examination.
Since the family’s financial condition was not sound, Sourav did not even have a study table or room of his own.
He was unable to get enrolled in coaching centres for want of money.
He collected the advertisement of Oil India Super 30 from a relative and appeared in its selection test, for which he was finally selected to undergo coaching.
Expressing his joy, Sourav said, “I had thought of the JEE entrance examination to be very tough. I am very happy that my hard work has paid off and I succeed in securing a good position.”
BJP state spokesperson, Phani Pathak on Thursday visited the rented house of Sourav to congratulate him on his rare achievement.
