Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday formally launched the programme of distributing 114 skid-steer loaders and 116 tippers to 76 municipalities of the state at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
Speaking at the occasion Chief Minister Sonowal stressed on the need to fulfil Gandhi Ji’s dream of a Clean India (Swachh Bharat) by keeping the towns and cities of the state clean by the people and the municipalities.
Saying that Urban Development Department has been working towards making the towns and cities of the state clean following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s motto of ‘Swachhta hi Sewa’, Sonowal stated that Minister of State (Independent) of Urban Development Department Pijush Hazarika has taken initiative to provide modern equipment to the municipalities for carrying out cleanliness activities.
Now the urban bodies must utilize these machinery for augmenting their functioning so that their respective areas can be model towns and cities, he said.
The Chief Minister also urged the municipalities to take steps for properly maintaining the equipment distributed today so that people in urban areas can be provided with a clean environment for living.
He also hoped that the discipline, cleanliness and hygienic practices observed by the people of the state during the fight against Coronavirus would be maintained in future as well as it would help in making the towns and cities clean.
