A man allegedly involved in an inter-state kidney transplant racket in Uttarakhand has been arrested from Guwahati.

The Dehradun Police arrested Akshay Raut, who was absconding since 2017 and had a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, from Guwahati after four years.

He was taken to Dehradun on five-day transit remand on Tuesday.

Dehradun SSP Janmejay Khanduri said Akshay is the son of racket kingpin Amit Raut who is among 17 accused already arrested in the case.

Khanduri said in September 2017, the police had busted a kidney racket and arrested 17 accused involved in it.

During the investigation at that time, one of the main accused, Amit Raut, said that his son Akshay Raut was also involved in the scandal who he had helped escape from Chandigarh after giving him some money.

The SSP said that the police was searching for the accused of the past four years who was finally nabbed from Guwahati.

He said that the accused used to illegally procure kidneys from poor and destitute people for a small amount of money.

He said that the accused has accepted all the charges against him.

Khanduri said that the accused had been living in many cities like Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Pune among others and working in various hospitals there as physicians in the past four years.
