A Union Power Ministry delegation has reviewed the hydro power projects in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Power Ministry delegation led by Secretary to the Power Ministry, Sanjiv Sahai on Sunday visited the Kameng Hydro Power project in Arunachal Pradesh.

After his visit to the power plant, Sahai exuded confidence that an additional 300 MW power should start getting generated soon.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu exuded confidence that the 600MW Kameng HEP will be the largest hydropower project in the North East.
“I am sure by 2022 Arunachal will have this feat broken by achieving another milestone by completing the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri project,” Khandu said.

Notably, this visit of Union power ministry delegation has come in the wake of reports about a massive hydropower project coming up on the Yarlung Zangbo (Brahmaputra in India) in China.

The power ministry delegation was on a three-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, where they visited micro and mini hydel projects on river Brahmaputra (known as Siang in Arunachal) in both the States.
The delegation also took stock work progress of the 2000MW Lower Subansiri hydro power project on the Assam-Arunachal border on Friday.
Meanwhile, the NHPC, which is carrying out the construction of the lower Subansiri Hydro-power project, assured the visiting delegation that the project would get completed by 2022.
Later on Friday evening, Sahai and his team also held a high-level meeting with Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Itanagar.
