As Assembly elections in Assam draw closer, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his attacks on Narendra Modi government.

Taking a dig at the BJP government, the Congress leader on Saturday said that unemployment, inflation, poverty, earnings of ‘friends’ increased under Modi govt.

Gandhi interacted with employees at the IOC Refinery at Digboi in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.

“The Farm Bills were passed without a discussion. They don’t let us speak in the Parliament. However, we stand strong, we will protect you and will not step back,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Gandhi also alleged that Modi government destroyed the economy of the country through various moves like demonetisation and implementation of “wrong GST”.

The leader also addressed a public meeting at Mariani in Jorhat on Saturday.

Rahul Gandhi, who is on his two-day visit to Assam, will also release the party’s manifesto for the poll-bound Assam today at 4.45 pm at Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office.

Assembly elections in Assam for 126 seats will be held in three phases starting on March 27.
