Hardcore ULFA(I) cadre Purnima Bora alias Mitu Asom was arrested during a joint operation by police and Assam Rifles at Tinkupani Reserve Forest near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Sunday.

Purnima Bora (37) hails from Sarupathar in Assam’s Golaghat district.

Tinsukia Police along with the 19th Battalion of Assam Rifles launched a joint operation based on specific intelligence inputs and apprehended Bora from Tinkupani Reserve Forest under Jagun police station near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

According to police, Purnima Bora alias Mitu Asom left the outfit’s Myanmar camp for health issues.

Her health condition is not well, police said.

Tinsukia superintendent of police Debojit Deori said, “We have arrested the female ULFA(I) cadre during a joint operation from Tinkupani Reserve Forest. Her health condition is bad and she is now undergoing treatment. She joined the outfit in 2002.”

“Right now, we cannot say much about the female UFA(I) cadre because she is under treatment. Till now, many women ULFA(I) cadres have returned to the mainstream after facing numerous problems in the outfit’s camp,” Deori said.

Sources said Bora was sent back from the ULFA(I) camp in Myanmar after her health deteriorated.

Many women from various villages joined the ULFA(I). While many of them have returned to their native villages, some are still in the outfit’s camp.

In 2018, kick-boxer Karishma Mech joined the ULFA(I) when she was 19 years old.

She hails from Phaneng village under Lekhapani police station in Tinsukia district, but she has not returned yet.
