Arrested ULFA (I) linkman Kanti Lal Pradhan

Army and police in a joint operation on Monday apprehended a linkman of the rebel outfit ULFA (I) at Tangla in Udalguri district.

Police officials said acting on intelligence inputs troops of 14th Dogra regiment of Red Horns Division Army with Tangla police launched a joint operation and managed to nab an ULFA (I) linkman from 1 No Roumari village under Tangla police station in Udalguri district.

The arrested linkman has been identified as Kanti Lal Pradhan alias Bhurgo, 27.

The linkman is a resident of Ambika Tea Estate near Bhergaon in Udalguri was allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases in the area.

One .22 factory made pistol along with six rounds of live ammunition were also recovered from his possession.

Sources said he was working as an over ground member of the militant out for the past decade and was an aide of dreaded ULFA rebel Rajen Deka who was killed in a fierce gun battle on December 1 last year in West-Nalbari village of Udalguri.

The security forces have been carrying out massive operations in the district striking blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground and over ground cadres of the militant outfits active in the area.
