The ULFA (I) has once again rubbished media reports regarding the death of the outfit leader Munna Baruah alias Rupak Axom.
The proscribed outfit in a statement on Saturday while rejecting the media report regarding the death of ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah’s 24-year-old nephew, said that Rupak Axom has been missing from October 29 from the outfit bases in Myanmar.
Rupak Asom, who has been suffering from schizophrenia, went missing around 11.30 am on October 29, said the ULFA (I) statement.
Calling the reports a ‘hoax’ by a journalist with a vested interest, the rebel group urged the people of Assam to not believe in this kind of false news about Rupak Asom’s death.
The ULFA (I) also urged the media to refrain from misleading the people by publishing such exaggerated news.
Earlier, ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruh also dismissed media reports regarding the death of Munna.
Baruah on Thursday had called an Assamese news channel and said that his nephew Munna had gone missing from the deep jungle in Myanmar.
Munna had joined the outfit based in Myanmar along with another youth in November, 2018.
His father Bimal Baruah is Paresh Baruah’s elder brother. Munna was serving as a junior engineer and was doing his apprenticeship at the Digboi Refinery before joining the outfit.
