Suspected United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) militants on Tuesday fired at a makeshift battalion camp at Bordumsa in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.

Police sources said a group of around six suspected armed ULFA (I) rebels opened fire targeting the battalion camp at Simaluguri in Tinsukia district along Arunchal Pradesh border.

The battalion camp was set up at Samaluguri after the banned outfit gunned down Anteswar Moran and his son Karuna in December last year.

A group of heavily-armed cadres of the ULFA-I on December 11 last year entered a house in Sonajan-Simaluguri village under Bordumsa police station and gunned down Anteswar Moran, president of the local Village Defence Party (VDP) and his son Karun Moran, who was a member of the BJP.

Sources said a team of police and Army has rushed to the spot.
