Lakhimpur border attack

North Lakhimpur: Two persons were injured in an attack by a group of youths from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh in Lakhimpurโ€™s border village of Sesa.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the group arrived at the shop of Basanta Bora in Sesa, an inter-state boundary village under Simaluguri Police Outpost.

The youths shouted for the shop to be opened, as Basanta was already asleep after closing his business.

When Basanta refused to open the shop in the middle of the night, the group went on a rampage, damaging the shop after breaking its door.

As Basanta and his son, Lohit Bora, confronted the rampaging group, they were allegedly assaulted on the head and face.

Both Basanta and a seriously injured Lohit were rushed to Dhalpur PHC for emergency medical aid, while the attackers fled back into Arunachal Pradesh.

Later, Lohit was shifted to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

The incident has once again underscored the fragile peace along the inter-state boundary of Assam’s Lakhimpur district, and Arunachal Pradesh, where skirmishes are regularly reported between residents and official departments like forest and revenue.
