Guwahati: Lakhimpur Police arrested two persons on suspicion of trafficking street dogs after intercepting a vehicle near Laluk in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

According to police, the arrests were made after personnel chased a car moving under suspicious circumstances near Meneha under Laluk Police Station jurisdiction on the night of May 22.

The vehicle, bearing registration number AS09 L 6466, was eventually intercepted at the 10th Mile area along NH-15. During the search, police found a dog tied inside the car.

The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as Jipen Bay (31) of Bagpani village in Karbi Anglong district and Sir-Im Lekhthe (21) of Langmili village in the same district. Both were taken into custody.

A case, Laluk PS Case No. 97/2026, was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
