The body of Sudip Sarkar, a BSF jawan from Dhaleswar area in Agartala, would be flown to his native place on Tuesday.

Sarkar was among four defence personnel who laid down their lives fighting infiltrators along the LoC in Machil sector in Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“I received a call from Kashmir last night (Sunday) and was told that my younger brother who is a Rifleman of the BSF’s 169 Bn was shot dead by infiltrators in Kupwara district. It seems the world is crashing on me,” said Dipankar Sarkar, the elder brother of the slain BSF jawan.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed shock over Sudip’s death.

“I express deepest condolence over the brave son of the country. I stand by the bereaved family at the crisis hours. May his soul rest in peace,” he said in a Facebook post.

Sources said the body of Sarkar was taken to the BSF headquarters in Delhi on Monday where was offered a seven-gun salute as a mark of respect.

On Tuesday, his body would be flown back to his native village Dhaleshwar, a posh area of Agartala city.
