A two-day conference of tourism and culture ministers of Northeast states began on Monday in Guwahati.

The conference is being attended by tourism and culture ministers of all the eight Northeast states.

The event is being organised by the union ministry of tourism.

Speaking at the programme, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “Tourism and culture are vital engines of growth of North East.”

“We must step up investments on road connectivity to get best of our tourism potential,” the Assam chief minister added.

Union minister for tourism, culture and DoNER – G Kishan Reddy, union minister for culture and parliamentary affairs – Arjun Ram Meghwal and union minister for defence – Ajay Bhatt also attended the conference in Guwahati on Monday.

An MoU has also been signed between the ministry of tourism and IRCTC for cooperation in promoting domestic tourism and development of new tourism products.
