A total of 3,338 Assam Police personnel have tested positive for COVID19 so far while the infections have claimed the lives of 13 cops.

Confirming the news, additional director general (law & order) of Assam Police, GP Singh tweeted: “August 23rd 2020 – Assam Police 3338 personnel have tested positive till date.”

A total of 2,791, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have recovered from the disease, Singh said.

“2791 have recovered. Unfortunately, we’ve lost Thirteen colleagues till date,” the top Assam Police officer said.

Meanwhile, Chirang Police on Sunday paid tribute to assistant sub-inspector (operations) Kameswar Lahkar of Assam Police Radio Organisation, posted in Bijni police station, who lost his life while fighting COVID19 as a corona warrior.

Lahkar died on August 19.

“Today an condolennce assembly was held in SP Office Chirang where tributes were paid to Late ASI (Opr) Kameswar Lahkar of APRO posted in Bijni PS. He took his last breath bravely fighting Covid19 on 19/08/2020,” Chirang Police tweeted.

So far, Assam has registered a total of 90,740 COVID19 positive cases.

On Sunday, the state registered 1,272 new positive cases out of 18,435 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 1272 #COVID cases detected today out of 18435 tests done in last 24 hours,” Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Sunday.

Assam’s COVID19 positivity rate stands at 6.89%.

On Sunday, 8 more positive patients succumbed to COVID19 infections in Assam, taking the state’s death toll to 242.

The COVID19 victims are from Kamrup Rural, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Nalbari, Baksa, and Hojai districts.
