Eyeing the crucial Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is all out to appease the media.

Knowing at well that the media, which at times, turns “unfriendly” towards the incumbent government, Sonowal on Wednesday urged the journalists of Assam to show the right path of development to the BJP-led government.

While key issues like the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and granting of ST status to six communities is sure to act against the BJP during the run up to the Lok Sabha election, the CM seems to be in no mood to leave any stone unturned for the sake of electoral fortune.

Flanked by media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami on the left and legal adviser Shantanu Bharali on the right, Sonowal on Wednesday afternoon distributed accreditation cards to 160 journalists of Assam at a colourful official function at the Administrative Staff College in Guwahati. He asked the scribes to play the role of watchdog so that any lapse on the part of the government can be corrected.

He was of the opinion that media should keep vigil on government activities without any hesitation as that would enthuse his government to perform in right direction.

“Play the role of watchdog and point out any lapse on the part of the government without any hesitation,” Sonowal said.

According to the chief minister each pillar of democracy should discharge its duties with responsibility and if all of them work with responsibility no evil force can do harm to the state.

Sonowal also announced all possible help to solve the problems of the media persons, including housing and healthcare facilities to the working journalists.
