Assam government issues clarification on its stand on proposed Nagalim to heal the wound of Dima Hasao that witnessed the death of two precious lives in police firing on Thursday.
The Assam government on Friday clarified that an inch of Assam land won’t be allowed to be included in the proposed Nagalim.
Commissioner and secretary, Hills Areas Development AU Choudhury, in a letter to the CEM of NC Hills Autonomous Council on January 26, stated, “The Government reiterates its long time stand that not an inch of Assam would allowed to be included in the so-called Greater Nagalim.”

Meanwhile situation in Dima Hasao district is still volatile. DIG (Southern range) Akhilesh Singh visited Haflong on Friday to take stock of the situation. He held a meeting with the delegation of various organizations regarding the situation in Haflong.
Though DIG Singh requested the organizations to withdraw bandh, people refused to accept his request until their demand for arrests of DC and SP is fulfilled.
The bandh on Thursday was called by Jadike Naiso Hosom (JNH), Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU), All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU), Dimasa Women’s Society (DSW) and Dimasa Mothers’ Association (DMA) who sought clarification from the State and Central Governments regarding the recent media reports that as per the Framework Agrement signed between the Central Government and the NSCN(IM), Dima Hasao would be included in the territory of Greater Nagalim and a separate council would be formed in the district.
Meanwhile, in protest against the police firing on Thursday at Maibang in which two persons have died and several other were injured and seeking written clarification from the Government on their stand over the proposed Greater Nagalim, several organisations have called for a 48-hour-long Dima Hasao bandh with effect from 5 am on Friday.
