A discussion on ‘Discovery of Assam’- a new initiative to be undertaken by State Innovation and Transformation Aayog, Assam (SITA) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of vice chairman Dipok Kumar Barthakur at his office chamber at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.
In a previous meeting held with the state chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, the vice chairman had discussed in depth the role of SITA in matters relating to good governance and an effective service delivery mechanism through interventions in socio economic transformation process to ensure a balanced development and resultant growth.

It was suggested that a mechanism should be developed through which government could showcase and highlight its development activities in different sectors of the State’s economy. It was also discussed that emphasis is to be given to tourism in its global and local perspective, cultural and ethnic diversities, values of tradition in historical background.
As desired by the chief minister, the project is to be named ‘Discovery of Assam’. The Discovery of Assam will be an information management application based on GIS web portal. The basic objective is to create and disseminate information to attract entrepreneurs/investors to the State as a priority destination.

Information on tourism and culture-tradition would cater to the queries and detailed map of the State’s attractions to national and international tourists.
The portal will help to increase the efficiency in decision making with the help of accurate information. The policy maker or decision maker or anyone who matter may use the portal to visually understand, track and monitor details related to their status or achievement or progress of work pertains to new business opportunities, potentials, public works, utilities works, transportation, environmental, natural resources, asset management, planning and development, engineering works etc on a real-time or off line basis.
In another words, the portal will allow to monitor the contribution of the various sectors and departments in the state to gauge exactly how well the same is performing.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Science & Technology Department, Government of Assam, Transformation & Development Department, Government of Assam, officials & scientist from ARSAC and IT Department.
