Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg has completed its probe, compiling nearly 3,500 pages of documents.
Sarma said the chargesheet is expected to be filed between December 6 and 12.
Speaking to reporters during the inauguration of the ACA stadium in Dima Hasao, he added that a meeting had been held with the Advocate General to finalise the next steps.
He stressed the importance of submitting the chargesheet within the specified timeframe. โWe should receive the documents before December 18; otherwise, the accused currently in jail could become eligible for bail,โ he said.
Reiterating his earlier statement, Sarma said the artistโs death is a confirmed case of murder.
During an Assembly session on November 25, he had declared that the death was a murder, noting that the government had classified it as such from the third day of the SIT probe, which began on September 23.
โAll accused have been charged under BNS Sections 61, 105, and 106. We also requested the Gauhati High Court to include Section 103 (formerly IPC 302). Preliminary investigations indicate this was murder, not negligence. Without Section 103, the accused could have secured bail,โ he told the House.
Sarma expressed confidence in the SITโs findings, saying the investigation uncovered details previously unknown in the state. โOne person committed the act, while others assisted. The term โmurderโ is now officially on record,โ he said.
He also clarified that the investigation will continue even after the chargesheet is filed to ensure all involved are identified and brought to justice. โThe court will deliver the final verdict, but the inquiry will continue to uncover any remaining details,โ Sarma added.
