The Sikkim FC won the sixth NECOP Annual Football Trophy at recently held football tournament in Pune.

The sixth NECOP Annual Football Tournament was held between eight north-eastern states from February 27 to March 2 at Symbiosis International University Campus Ground in Viman Nagar of Pune.

Fifteen teams from eight north-eastern states participated in the four-day tournament. Sikkim FC won the title in tie breaker penalty shootout against NSUP B in a very thrilling final.

A spirit of unity and common love for football defines the atmosphere. A great number of audience turned up during the tournament. They were present to cheer their favourite teams and were equally thrilled as they were inside the circle chasing the ball.

Khaidem Nongpoknganba, general secretary, NECOP said, “The tournament is held annually by North East Community Organization Pune (NECOP) to bring together the Northeast students and working professionals living in Pune through the love of football. NECOP was established in 2012 and became registered on December 24, 2018”.

Expressing his views Angel Bhattacharya, sports secretary, NECOP said, “It was indeed a good run with the sixth NECOP annual football tournament. I especially thank all the players for their excellent performance and maintaining true sportsmanship. I accord my thanks to all the NECOP executives, advisors, Symbiosis and all the guests.”

Winning team was awarded with a prize money of Rs 30,000, winners’ trophy along with medals and certificates. The runners up received a prize money of Rs 20,000, trophy along with medals and certificates.
