Team Sikkim emerged as the champions of the first ever North East students Dr T Ao football trophy after defeating Assam in the final match by a solitary goal in Kolkata recently.

The Naga Students’ Union Kolkata (NSUK) has introduced the Northeast students Dr T Ao football trophy in honour of legendary footballer.

NSUK president Thepuzo Keyho was of the view that NSUK has introduced the North East Students Dr T Ao football trophy in the Northeast annual sports week through the initiative taken by Government of Nagaland in commemoration of 100th birth anniversary of Dr T Ao, according to reports.

Kolkata has been a significant city in the life and career of Dr T Ao as a professional footballer and as a medical student.

The union felt that through this initiative, the Northeast students will remember the inspiring life and legacy left behind by the legendary footballer from Nagaland.

Six north eastern states took part in the first edition of the tournament.

It was held as part of the 21st annual sports meet of the North East Students’ Forum West Bengal held from March 5 to 7 last.

Meanwhile, NSUK expressed gratitude to Youth Resources & Sports advisor Er Zale Neikha for sponsoring the trophy.

The trophy will be running trophy on yearly basis for the north-eastern students in Kolkata during the annual sports meet.
