Sensation prevailed at Bajali in Barpeta district following recovery of two bodies floating on river Pahumara in the Karaikuwa Nayapara area of the district within 24 hours.

On February 16, the body of a man identified that of Prabhat Ch Das, Gaon Burha of Sarupeta, was found floating on the river.

Later, the body of the deceased was sent to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College & Hospital (FAAMCH), Barpeta for post-mortem.

But shockingly, on Saturday, another body of a man was found floating on river Pahumara at the same place in Karaikuwa Nayapara Chupa. The deceased, whose age is believed to be around 47 years, was wearing black T-shirt and dark blue colour jeans pant when the body was recovered.

The locals after witnessing the body floating on the river at noon on Saturday informed it to the police. Immediately after getting the information, a team of Pathsala Police reached the spot and after recovering the body took it to the Pathsala Police Station.

The police are yet to ascertain the cause of the death of the person. However, the locals suspect that the deceased might have accidentally fell down from the bridge on the river while riding a bike.

It may be mentioned that some locals informed that they saw the Gaon Burha of Sarupeta, Prabhat Ch Das on a bike driven by an unknown person. Police suspect that the body recovered on Saturday might be that of the bike rider.

It has been suspected that both the persons might have drowned in the river along with the bike while crossing the bridge. On the basis of this suspicion, police have started an operation to recover the bike from the river.
