Probably unhappy over the handling of law and order situation in Assam, the Centre has sent senior police official GP Singh to Assam to tackle the situation.

Singh, who had spent a considerable time of his career in Assam, arrived in Guwahati on Thursday morning and reviewed the security scenario.

Army also carried out a flag march in Guwahati on Thursday morning to tackle the law and order situation.

The Centre has also sent 5,000 CRPF personnel to the state on Wednesday.

The Assam government has also kept some army columns as standby to be deployed in other districts if required.

Meanwhile, protests have continued to rock the state on Thursday as thousands of people defied the curfew and took to the streets to protest against CAB.

The contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB was passed in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday night.
