The criminal investigation department (CID) of Assam Police on Thursday night arrested senior police officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna for his alleged involvement in Assam police recruitment scam.
Police said Krishna will be produced in the court on Friday.
Krishna, who was posted as Karimganj SP, was transferred to Barpeta as SP of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after his name cropped up in the recruitment scam.
Earlier in the day, Krishna appeared before the police at the Assam Police headquarters in Ulubari, where he was questioned by ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh in connection with the recruitment scam.
A special team of CID also reached the headquarters of Assam police to initiate further proceedings against the FRRO SP in connection with the case.
Sanjit Krishna had been allegedly absconding since Tuesday after he was interrogated by CID.
He was arrested following his interrogation and taken to Mohendra Mohan Choudhury Civil Hospital (MMCH) at Panbazar for medical examination and COVID test.
