Northeast Now reporter Kalpajyoti Saikia has been honoured with bravery award for the year 2020 by NGO Sahakhi.
The award was presented to Saikia during a programme organized at the Bhagawati Prasad Barua hall of Asom Sahitya Sabha in Guwahati on Sunday.
The award was presented by the president of Sahakhi, Trishna Nath, administrative officer and social worker Mukul Saikia, All Assam Mid-Day Meal Cook Union’s central committee advisor Suneel Rongpi, All Assam Mid-Day Meal Cook Union’s Khudeja Begum and social worker Rekha Borgohain.
After receiving the award, journalist Saikia said, “I am a new learner. For encouraging me with the award to go ahead in the field of journalist in a proper way, I am thankful to the president of Sahakhi, Trinath Nath and all other members.”
“This kind of encouragement will motivate me in the field of journalism so that I can do reporting with more courage,” Saikia said.
Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, the general secretary of the NGO, Sahakhi, Meera Das said, “Trishna Nath, the president of the organisation, who has been working for the victimed women along with a group of women across Assam, is the daughter of a poor family from a small village at Demow.”
“We have been actively and courageously working through Sahakhi in various districts across Assam,” she added.
The president of the organization, Trishna Nath said like previous year, she was happy to felicitate Assam’s 25 journalists and 4 personalities engaged in various fields.
Sahakhi also observed its fourth foundation day on the occasion.
The organization honoured a total of 28 persons with Sahakhi and Corona Warrior awards.
The awardees included Dy365’s Dhuiraj Hazarika, News18 Assam Northeast’s Hirakjyoti Malakar, Assam Talks’ Tirtha Bora, News Live’s Abhilasha Bora, Prag News’ Babita Gogoi, New Now’s Birinchi Kumar Deka and Prag News’ Utpal Bora (Jorhat).
The event was attended by former Asom Sahitya Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and social worker Mukul Saikia as distinguished guests.
The event was inaugurated by Asom Sahitya Sabha vice-president Mrinalinee Devi.
The programme was anchored by Jahnavi Barua and Nayanjyoti Bora.
