Things have come to such a pass that even one big shower is enough to make the road incapable for communication.

The Chief Minister’s residence is situated at the beginning of the No 1 Lakhi Nagar Path.

And only that portion of road which runs along the CM’s residence campus is black-topped while the rest of the road is a muddy one.

Sunil Rajkonwar, president of Lakhi Nagar Unnayan Samiti and president of Anchalikbadi Asom Gana Parishad (AAGP) said, “In 1999 Sarbanada Sonowal laid the foundation stone of No 1 Lakhi Nagar Path. Sonowal was then a leader of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).”

Rajkumar said, “During the monsoon season, the school students and the patients face the major problems due to the poor condition of the road.”

He added, “The previous government also failed to construct the road. The BJP government which came to power with a commitment to come up with ‘Parivartan’ but till date the road towards the Assam CM’s residence road in Dibrugarh is in a dilapidated condition.”

The president of Lakhi Nagar Unnayan Samiti, Rajkumar added, “We feel very ashamed when people visit our home and say that nothing would happen to this road,”

Rajkonwar is also a resident along the No 1 Lakhi Nagar Path.

However, he is hopeful that the road will be constructed soon.

After several pleas, Gobin Changmai, a local resident of No 1 Lakhi Nagar posted about the dilapidated condition of the road to social networking site, Facebook.

Talking to media, Changmai said as nobody had taken the matter seriously despite several pleas, “I took up the matter to the social media through Facebook to address the plight of the people.”

“Our road has remained the same and there has been no improvement to our Lakhi Nagar Path,” said Changmai.

“During monsoon we have to face the major problem. The whole stretch of the half kilometre road has been constructed with gravel and in some areas the potholes have come up which turn into small muddy ponds during rain,” he added.

Changmai further stated, “The BJP came to power to bring development, but till date the road towards Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal’s residence is yet to be constructed.”

“We have urged the government to soon construct the road before monsoon,” Changmai, who is a resident of No 1 Lakhi Nagar said.

Changmai further said, “The people of No 1 Lakhi Nagar have been appealing to the local MLA to construct the road but he has also not taken up the matter seriously.”

More than 1000 people live in the area.
