As the flood scene in Assam gradually improves, an incident of rhino poaching was reported from Kaziranga National Park on Saturday.

As per reports, poachers killed a female rhino in Kohora range of the Kaziranga National Park and the carcass of the dehorned rhino was recovered on Saturday morning.

KNP DFO Ramesh Kumar Gogoi informed that on Friday evening the forest officials of Kohora range’s Gorbai, Borbil and Kathonibari informed of hearing the firing of six-rounds of bullets and they launched an operation to find the exact location.

“The officials even launched a massive manhunt in search of the poachers during the night near the Brahmaputra,” Gogoi said.

“Today morning the search team found the carcass of the dehorned rhino,” Gogoi added.

Six empty cartridges were also recovered by the forest officials from near the rhino carcass.

One person, suspected to be involved in the killing of the rhino, was also apprehended by the Biswanath district forest official.

This is the third incident of rhino poaching in 2020.
