Gohain has been recreating historical events involving the IAF in different wars on canvas during the past few years.

His artistic depiction of the Indo-Pak conflicts of 1965 and 1971 are particularly worth mentioning.
Gohain had retired from the post of group captain in 2004 after served in the IAF for more than 30 years.

The artist’s creations depict actual events involving the Air Force during different wars and his paintings accompany narratives on these events.
His painting titled “Attack on Government House” depicted the attack by four MiG-21s on the official residence of the Governor of East Pakistan in the Bangladesh Liberation war of 1971, a report stated.
Governor A. Malik had been holding a meeting with senior government and military officials when the MIG-21s carried out the attack, compelling the former to resign.
The then leader of the MiG formation, Wing Commander BK Bishnoi , who later retired as Air Vice Marshal had shared detailed information on the attack with Gohain to help him in effectively portraying it on canvas.
