The researcher in her complaint said that she was molested by the 56-year-old senior faculty member, who is her research supervisor.

The teacher allegedly locked the door to his departmental cabin and forcefully kissed her, when she had gone to show him some papers relating to her research.

She said that she could master the courage to complaints against him only recently.

The matter is being looked into by members of the internal complaints committee (ICC) of the University, which looks into the complaints of sexual harassment of women at workplace.

“We have an internal mechanism to look into such complaints of molestation or other harassment at workplace.

“There is a committee instituted in this regard and the committee is probing the matter. It is difficult to make any comment at this point of time,” Tilak Hazarika, secretary of the Gauhati University Teachers’ Association (GUTA), told Northeast Now.

Sources said the ICC has convened a meeting on Monday (October 21) to discuss the compliant.

Repeated efforts to reach IIC presiding officer Anjana Kakoti Mahanta on her mobile phone proved futile. Nobody picked up the phone.
