The committee constituted to look into the issues affecting the performances of Assam’s tea industry and the diminishing role of Tocklai Tea Research Institute, submitted its report to the Assam chief minister on Monday.
The eight-member committee, headed by the former Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr. Mridul Hazarika, submitted its report to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s office chamber in Janata Bhawan.
The committee was formed at the initiative of chief minister Sonowal and in view of the concerns expressed by various stakeholders on the present status of tea industry in the state and the diminishing role of Tocklai Tea Research Institute (TTRI).

The Assam government constituted the committee through the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) in April 2019 to study various issues and suggest the government for revival of the tea industry and TTRI.
The committee after completing its study on the present condition of the Assam tea industry and TTRI after discussions with different stakeholders and visiting various core areas prepared its report with certain recommendations and handed over the same to the CM.

Chief Minister Sonowal thanked the chairman and other members of the committee for carrying out the exhaustive study and preparing a report.
SITA vice president Dipok Barthakur, CEO Nitin Khare, chairman of the committee Dr. Mridul Hazarika and other senior office-bearers were present during the submission of the report.
