Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that the two accused arrested in connection with the twin murders and rape on trains will be tried in a fast-track court.

The Chief Minister said at Numaligarh that he has directed police to submit the charge-sheet in the case in quickest-possible time to ensure that the victim families get speedy justice.

Police arrested two men– Bikas Das and Bipin Pandey– for the rape and murder of two women, who were found dead in the toilets of trains.

Police officials said Bikas, who ran a tea shop and worked as a hawker and Bipin, an auto rickshaw driver, have confessed to their role in the rapes and murders.

While Das was arrested from the New Tinsukia railway station as he waited to board another train on July 12, Pandey was held from a train in Dibrugarh on July 13.

Assam Agricultural University student Radha Kumari, 21, was found murdered in the toilet of the Dibrugarh-Rangiya Express at Simaluguri station in Sivasagar district on Tuesday, another woman, Lalima Debi was found murdered in the toilet of down Avadh Assam Express at Mariani station in Jorhat district on Wednesday.

Upon interrogation, it has come to light that the two victims were raped by the duo before being killed. Second accused Pandey has told the police that he indulged in sex with the corpses of the victims, said a TOI report.

Assam Social Welfare Minister Pramilarani Brahma and Power Minister Tapan Kr Gogoi visited the residence of Radhika in Sivasagar on Saturday and assured her family members a speedy trial.

The two ministers further said they would take up the issue of providing a job for a member of the family in the railways with railway authorities.

“The culprits will be punished as per strictest provisions of the law. We will also take up the issue of providing a job for a member of the family with railway officials,” Minister Gogoi told reporters.
