Former NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary on Friday tested positive for COVID-19. His swab samples were collected on July 4.
According to IG (Jail) Dasarath Das, Daimary is currently admitted to MMCh in Guwahati and will be later sent to GMCH.
Daimary’s lawyer Manas Konwar, meanwhile, alleged that the former NDF chief was initially taken to Jagiroad COVID hospital but had to be shifted to MMCH due to the lack of beds at Jagiroad.
Reacting to this, IGP (Jail) Dasarat Das, however, denied the matter regarding no seat in Jagiroad hospital.
Das said that Daimary was directly sent to MMCH.
Reportedly, Daimary is among the 19 inmates of the Guwahati Central jail who were detected positive on Friday.
The other 18 inmates were taken to the Jagiroad COVID hospital for treatment.
So far 25 inmates of the Central jail have tested COVID-19 positive.
