The railway police on Sunday recovered a .22 pistol and 30 rounds of live ammunition from the Down Kamrup Express at Guwahati Railway Station.

The pistol and ammunitions were recovered from a toilet of the train’s coach No 11 at 7.30 am.

The train was standing on platform No. 1 during the time of recovery.

The railway police are yet to confirm who had kept the pistol and the ammunitions in the train’s toilet.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Guwahati Railway Police Station have continued investigation to find more details.

Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Rangiya conducted an awareness campaign at Rangapara station regarding safety and security of women passengers.

The RPF personnel also counselled male passengers not to travel in coaches which are earmarked for ladies. Passengers were also sensitized about the security helpline No 182.

The National Frontier Railway (NFR) informing about the awareness campaign on its Twitter handle on Sunday stated: “RPF Rangiya conducted an awareness campaign at Rangapara station regarding safety and security of women passengers.”

“They counselled male passengers not travel in coaches earmarked for ladies. Passengers were also sensitized about Security help line no 182,” it added.
