Guwahati: RailTel Corporation of India Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a major order from the Government of Assam to roll out an advanced Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) across seven government medical college hospitals in the state.

Valued at Rs 56.71 crore (excluding taxes), the project, under the Medical Education & Research Department, Assam, aims to digitise hospital operations and improve transparency, efficiency, accountability, and patient experience across Assamโ€™s tertiary healthcare network.

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. is one of Indiaโ€™s largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers and a trusted end-to-end IT and ICT services company.

The web-based HMIS is a multi-module, integrated clinical information system designed to streamline end-to-end hospital workflows. Patients will be able to access their medical records on mobile devices, while doctors will have real-time access to comprehensive clinical data and decision-support tools to enable timely and accurate treatment.

Hospital administrators will benefit from data-driven dashboards for informed decision-making, and the platformโ€™s multi-hospital capability will allow cross-consultation and collaboration among institutions.

The hospitals covered under the project are:

  • Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh
  • Guwahati Medical College Hospital, Guwahati
  • Silchar Medical College Hospital, Cachar
  • Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital, Barpeta
  • Tezpur Medical College Hospital, Tezpur
  • Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital, Lakhimpur
  • Diphu Medical College Hospital, Diphu

The system will integrate seamlessly with medical and diagnostic equipment, enabling smooth data flow across departments and laboratories. By reducing paperwork and automating processes, the HMIS is expected to cut administrative burden, improve service turnaround times, and ease pressure on healthcare staff.

The overall project duration is seven years. This includes 78 weeks for implementation, followed by a six-month software stabilisation period after completion at the final hospital.

RailTel will then provide three years of operations and maintenance support, along with an additional two years of extended on-site comprehensive O&M services.

Officials said the initiative marks a significant step towards building a digitally empowered healthcare ecosystem in Assam, setting a benchmark for modern, patient-centric public healthcare delivery in the country.
