Guwahati: Raijor Dal, led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, has released its first set of nominees for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, as the stateโs political activity intensifies with the polls approaching.
The Party has released its initial batch of 11 candidates, with further announcements anticipated soon.
Among the prominent names are Gyanashree Bora, a former assistant professor at Goalpara College, who will contest from the 101-Mariani constituency after joining Raijor Dal.
Azizur Rahman, the ex-President of the All Assam Minorities Studentsโ Union (AAMSU), has been named for the 68-Dalgaon seat. Former Congress leader Abdur Rashid Mandal, now with Raijor Dal, will contest from the 14-Goalpara East constituency.
At a press briefing, the party also confirmed its working president, Romen Chandra Borthakur, as the candidate for the 51-Jalukbari constituency, where he is set to face Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Other candidates include Anjan Talukdar from 41-Manas, Mehboob Muktar from 83-Dhing, Alok Nath from 73-Tezpur, Dulal Chandra Barua from 73-Sissiborgaon, Rahul Chetry from 84-Margherita, Lakhyajyoti Gogoi from 84-Digboi, and Ratan Daw from 105-Bokakhat.
The announcement followed remarks by Akhil Gogoi, who criticised Congress for releasing its candidate list unilaterally, calling it โunconstitutionalโ as seat-sharing arrangements with potential alliance partners in Assam have yet to be finalized.
While Congress has stated that a formal alliance with Raijor Dal has not been finalized, discussions continue.
Raijor Dal has confirmed it will coordinate with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on local initiatives, even as discussions for a wider alliance continue.
