ULFA (Pro-talk) general secretary Anup Chetia on Sunday said that the outfit had remained silent on the ongoing situation due to ‘pressure’ from the centre.
Chetia who attended a public meeting at Guwahati said, “We are under pressure to remain silent over the prevailing situation at a meeting in Delhi recently.”
The meeting was organized by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and several other organizations to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
ULFA (Pro-talk) is currently in talks with the government.
“It was in September the government was contemplating to put Jiten Dutta behind the bars when Akhil Gogoi was arrested but we had to intervene at that time. But we are not able to oppose his arrest now as we are holding parleys with the government,” Chetia said.
Jiten Dutta was arrested by the Assam Police on Friday evening in connection with a case in Geetanagar police station for making objectionable statement on October 24.
